The
Jamani Arab
Horse Stud
was founded by Jannie and Charmaine Grobbelaar back in 1953.
It is of interest to note that the stud was founded on stock
imported from England only, and since it was started years ago, by a
system of line breeding and selection the results achieved are
convincing enough to see that the excellent bloodlines used, should
be preserved.
Progeny of the following famous Sires in England are to be found in
this stud :
Raktha, General Grant, Grey Owl, Count D'orsaz, Blue Domino
and the successful
Manasseh.
We are indebted to all the breeders who have bred these Arab
horses, found in these pedigrees, before us, and we are grateful to
all for what we could achieve. Without their knowledge which
was always so generously given to us, it would not have been
possible.
Leonard and Stephanus had a meeting with Charmaine Grobbelaar in
1986 to discuss the future of Jamani. It was decided to look
for a new stallion in England and Rosemary Archer was contacted to
breed her mare,
Silvern Dream,
to the stallion
Bright Crown
belonging to the Duchess of Rutland. The resulting foal,
Silvern Gleam
is known world wide ...
Silvern Gleam
was selectively bred to our old Jamani mares and the foals are
legendary. Silvern Gleam is the icon of the Arabian horse in
South Africa being the only Arabian to have won the all breed
Supreme riding horse championship 1999 at the Horse of the Year show
and returning in 2000 to be reserve Supreme riding horse all breeds
at the same show. He was the first ever horse to win the
Supreme Riding Horse Champion at the Autumn Gold Cup and he has more
than 20 South African National titles credited to his name in
numerous disciplines. Comments from Claire are : "Gleam is an
outstanding horse, not only as an Arabian, but also in comparison
with all the different horse breeds that we produce and show under
saddle. He is incredibly sensitive and intelligent, very
responsive to calm encouragement, rarely needs to be admonished for
inattention in his work and co-operates to his utmost to please his
rider in all that is asked of him".
Silvern Gleam is the Arab Stallion who will always be remembered as
the Arab which set the standard for riding in our country, and we
know this great horse will be remembered by the many who saw him so
elegantly ridden in the showring.
In the nineties Jamani stud was renamed to El-Jamani (meaning out of
Jamani) because we deviated slightly from breeding on the pure
English lines. Using stallions like
El-Fagr, Thee Cyclone
and BHF Sting
to name a few.
In January 2006 Stephanus purchased the Scottsdale reserve champion
stallion
Belvedere PSY.
He was then shown to his double Scottsdale reserve championship for
Stephanus a month later. Belvedere PSY has a big
percentage of English lines and is out of the Bey Shah mare Marlaina
Lee by the world leading sire Padrons Psyche. It is also
interesting to note that Silvern Gleam's grandfather, Bright Shadow,
is also the grandfather of Padron, the sire of Padrons Psyche.
It should be noted that without Crabbet Park there'd have been no
Khemosabi, no Bey Shah, and no Padrons Psyche.
Our aim at El-Jamani will always be to breed functional Arabian
Horses with type, quality and conformation and never to please a
"passing-by" fashion or demand. El-Jamani extends a hearty
welcome to all visitors to the stud. Come and share what is so
precious to us. |
